Prevention of Falls
Overview
This course is completely free of charge because it is sponsored by Bupa as part of their Charitable Giving commitment. The course was authored by Dr Peter Overstall who is well known for his contribution to geriatric medicine in the field of Falls. It will give carers an introduction to some of the basics of preventing falls in the Care Home. It will provide you with an understanding of the risk of falls, how falls happen and how to prevent them. On completion of the course learners are awarded a printable certificate as proof of achievement. There are no entry requirements for this course and we estimate that it will take 30 minutes to complete.
Course Content
The Preventing Falls course covers:- Who is at risk of falling in Care Homes
- The individual and environmental causes of falls
- The physical, psychological and emotional effects of falls
- How to produce a best possible care plan
- How to reduce the risk of falls and provide a safe environment for your resident
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the Preventing Falls course, the learner should have:- An understanding of the main risks of falls in the care home
- A practical understanding of how to create a suitable care plan
- An awareness of who is most at risk of falling in the care home
- Knowledge of the impact falls have on residents.
